WEB DEVELOPMENT

The Web Development track will give you advanced knowledge of Rails, training on how innovative companies are using it, time to hack, and mentorship from experienced developers.

What will I learn in the Web Development track?

"If you’re looking to hone a specific skill, a one-off skills school is perfectly fine, but if you’re really looking to break away from wherever you’re working now, whatever you want to do, the best place for you is the Startup Institute—because you’re going to not only get the skills, but you’re going to be immersed in a situation which is going to be as close as you can possibly get to working in a startup, without actually working in one."

-Tom Hughes, Senior Art Director at Polaroid, Worldwide Creative Director at Apple Computers, Founder of IdeaLab, Marketing and Design Instructor at Startup Institute

Startup Institute is not just another school.

It's not an incubator, and it's not a one-off skills class.

It's an experience.

It is a challenge, and a process. And although it isn't easy, it is transformative.

It begins as immersive learning with a cohort of strangers--it ends as a network of mentors, entrepreneurs, practitioners and peers that you take with you for the rest of your career.

The Web Development track is focused on teaching Rails to developers who have a strong grasp on a least one other backend language (i.e. Ruby, Python, Java). You will gain a solid understanding of a model-view-controller architecture, will build your first rails app, and will work on a team programming project with a strong focus on agile development tactics. You will have exposure to topics such as test-driven development, git, AWS, Heroku, node.js, and mobile-first methodology
Our instructors are the very entrepreneurs and professionals looking to hire our graduates. They help our curriculum come to life by providing insights from their experiences. All of the instructors come from industry, so they know exactly how startups operate and what companies are looking for in their next hire.

By the end of the eight weeks, you’ll be ready to take on a position as a Junior Web Developer where you’ll be able to continue to learn and grow your skill-set on the job.

We’re glad you asked! Our fall program begins on October 19 and we are currently accepting applications.
